How to create a fundraising campaign
We recommend printing out the following directions or opening up a new
window on your browser to assist you when setting up your fundraising
campaign
To create your fundraising campaign click on "Start a new fundraising campaign."
If you do not already have a User Name and Password click "Register here".
Enter you User Name and Password.
Choose a campaign Title:
Your URL (the actual web address) will be the same title you choose for the fundraising campaign at the end of https://abilityfound.org. For example if the name of your fundraiser is "Wheelchairs that Rock" then your URL will be https://abilityfound.org/wheelchairsthatrock. This is the link you will send to people to promote your fundraiser.
If you have more than one person or group you can check the box next to "make it a team campaign" where each person or group on your team has their own fundraising web page. The URL Short Name will be the same campaign title URL as displayed on your main fundraising web page.
Enter the goal amount for your campaign:
Think about your network of interested supporters and choose a goal amount to ensure success. We enjoy setting realistic goals and reaching them as opposed to setting aggressive goals and falling short of expectations.
Setting the goal date:
Consider the amount of time you think it will take to acheive your goal. The default time is already set for one month from the date you begin the fundraising campaign. in our experience goal dates under 3 months have the best chance at success.
If there is a special date or event that you plan to use around the theme of your fundraiser then try setting the goal on or after that date. You can modify the goal date if needed, meaning you are welcome to move it up or back to suit the needs of your fundraiser.
Entering text in the "About Our Campaign" box:
This is the area where you enter in text to tell about your fundraiser. We recommend looking at some the current and past fundraisers to get an idea for how other people have done it. Some general guidelines here:
Tell the world...
Why you have chosen to raise funds for Ability Found?
How has Ability Found positively affected you or someone you know and love?
What specifically you are raising funds for? For example; a power wheelchair, an accessible van, a stair lift, or the general fund of Ability Found
An important note about IRS regulations!!
You cannot say your fundraising campaign is to help someone by name, it is against IRS regulations. You can though create a campaing to purchase a specific piece of equipment, like a customized wheelchair, or stair lift. You can also create a fundraiser to help a general group of people such as children with cerebral palsy. If you desire to make your fundraising goal for a specific piece of equpment or a specific group of people, please contact us so we can help you with your goal.
At the end of your fundraiser after we have chosen the individual and
placed the equipment, the IRS allows us, with the permission of the
person, to let you know who that person is so that you and your
supporters can see the personal effects of your effort.
Entering text in the "Why you should sponsor me" box:
In this box you can tell and inspire the world with the creative idea you have come up with for your fundraiser. We suggest you start by looking at our Ideas for a great fundraising campaign or come up with your own fun idea. The concept is to raise funds to help people with disabilities get much needed equipment and for the person organizing the fundraiser to achieve something fun and rewarding.
Uploading digital pictures to your fundraising campaign:
You are allowed to upload up to 4 digital pictures to give your fundraising campaign personal appeal. Each picture can be no larger than 1 MB. Most computers as part of the operating system package and digital camera software have an application that will resize pictures for you.
