Jane’s Situation

Jane is a 14 year old girl who is paralyzed from a motor vehicle accident
With multiple equipment needs the family's budget was stretched thin
Jane's dream is to become an environmental lawyer

The Help Needed

Jane's family has spent nearly all of their resources on specialized equipment from beds and wheelchairs to bath chairs and braces for her legs. One vital piece of equipment that was left uncovered was a specialized laptop computer that Jane can control with her head, to participate better in school and complete her studies electronically.

Result

Jane was elated with the new laptop computer that was loaded with several specialized features for her unique situation. She is now able to attend class, upload her books, worksheets and tests as well as hang out with her friends online. Connecting with friends means a lot to teenagers...

How Ability Found Helped

Jane's physical and occupational therapists from the school district in combination with her private physical therapist and a local hospital identified what types of equipment would be provided through her insurance company and which would not. Ability Found provided the funding for the specialized laptop as well as an elevating seat for her power wheelchair and a specialized bathtub to allow her to bathe each day.
