We are happy to report that with her new custom power wheelchair Megan can now return to work. In the past Megan was able to work at a thrift store in her town while using her manual wheelchair. However, as is normal with Spina Bifida, it has become too difficult to self-propel her manual wheelchair and perform her duties such as hanging clothes and carrying objects around the store.
With the possibility of Megan losing her job, the occupational therapist at Megan’s Spina Bifida Clinic applied to Ability Found on her behalf. We found out that Megan was not eligible for a power wheelchair through her insurance because her manual wheelchair was just a few years old and their position is that they only purchase a wheelchair about every 5 years.
Congratulations Megan, may you use your new power chair in good health for years to come! Providing people with this kind of freedom is what makes working with Ability Found so much fun.
