Arthur Brooks in his book titled “Gross National Happiness” shows how charity blesses the giver. Using his economic background he reviews numerous studies that show people who volunteer or donate to charity are healthy, happier, live longer, and are more prosperous than their neighbors. For example John D. Rockefeller believed his charitable philanthropy was the cause of his unprecedented wealth. He was a pragmatic man who saw a direct cause and effect. The more he gave the more he earned.
People are primarily motivated to donate their time and money because they truly want to help their neighbors. Receiving something in return is an added benefit. But it really does happen; the more people give the more they receive. It is shown unequivocally through statistical analysis as Arthur Brooks has demonstrated in his book.
